Saucony Xodus Ultra 4
Anyone who runs off road has probably used a Vibram outsole. One of the benchmark outsole materials in the trail world, it gives excellent grip and traction on the trails. Here, it makes it debut on the Saucony Xodus Ultra 4 and the first time it has been on a Saucony shoe in a while. Consequently, this will probably be the grippiest Xodus yet. In addition to this, the 4mm lug depth gives versatility to the shoes. Therefore, the Xodus can handle whatever terrain you throw at it.ย
Furthermore, the Xodus Ultra 4 has a dual foam midsole construction. PWRRUN PB is the cushion for the forefoot, however, this is wrapped in a rim of PWRRUN EVA. As a result of this dual foam midsole, the PWRUN PB is protected from the rigours of the trail. Meanwhile, the EVA also provides additional stability for when the going gets rough. Overall, it sounds like a promising mix for those who want to keep it off the ‘crete.
As far as the upper goes, the ripstop material continues the theme of protection. Chiefly there to protect the foot from trail debris, it also adds a mud camouflaging colourway to the mix.ย In a world of white trail shoes, it’s good to see something more muted and understated.
The Xodus Ultra 4 comes in at 306g which is a weight gain over the past few versions. However, the 36mm stack in the heel and 6mm drop will give plenty of cushion on the trails. If you fancy some extra grip in your step, the Xodus Ultra 4 can be picked up from June 2025 at a price of $160.
