TRE Trail Round Up 2025 Introduction
One of the fastest growing sectors in the running world is the trail scene. From specialist brands born in the mud like Inov8 to fashion forward thinkers like SATISFY, everyone is taking us into nature. For this article, we will have a look at a new Merrell offering, some goodies from La Sportiva and a very bright shoe from Arc’teryx. If you are looking to get away from the pavement next year and broaden your horizons, these could be the shoe for you.
TRE Trail: Merrell Agility Peak 6
The aim of the Merrell Agility Peak 6 is to keep all the best parts of the fifth version while fixing the weaknesses. Simple, really. The good part, the midsole, stays the same as before. A 32mm stack in the heel with a 6mm drop in the FloatPro foam. This gives the shoe a moderate stack which offers plenty of cushion but also has the stability to tackle moderate to rugged trails.
Now, the changes. Moving from the top down, we find a new more open mesh for the upper. This differs from the more closed mesh of the Agility Peak 5 with vented zones for both breathability and water egress. Carrying on down the shoe, Merrell has increased the length of the FLEXconnect grooves to the full length of the midsole. Previously, these had just been in the forefoot area. This adds to the adaptability of the shoe as the terrain changes underfoot. Finally, the Vibram MegaGrip outsole remains but with a 15-20% increase in grip on the 5mm lugs with extra traction nubs.
This Goldilocks shoe will be available in February 2026 for a price of $160.

TRE Trail: La Sportiva Prodigio 2
An evolution of the first shoe with the learning from the award winning Prodigio Pro added in to the mix. Sounds like fun! According to La Sportiva, the Prodigio 2 will be able to take you from door to trail and then into the technical mountain tops too. How does it manage this?
Well, first we find a shoe which is more adapted to runnable races and terrain. Snapper, faster underfoot and more comfortable overall. The foam is more responsive than in the previous version to help you get going when the trail allows. Meanwhile, the platform is wider and more stable. This helps with sure footed landings and makes sure the run is stable from start to finish. If this sounds like your cup of tea, you can pick it up in mid February for a price of $170.

TRE Trail: Arc’teryx Sylan 2
The GORPcore clothing brand also make shoes to take you through the wilds. In this instance, the shoe is the Sylan 2, their trail super shoe. Every brand has to have one! This might be one of the brightest releases of TRE 2025. Let’s see what else it has to offer other than the lurid green upper! According to the brand, it is a revolution from the first shoe rather than an evolution. In this second version, we find the first Arc’teryx shoe with a super critical foam.
The midsole has had a major change with this addition. A TPEE lower half tub contains a forked carbon composite plate which is for added stability in technical terrain. Atop this, we find the layer of super critical foam to ensure you can go fast in technical terrain. Developed with Arc’teryx athletes, it is their fastest shoe to date.
To help keep you grounded, the upper has a knitted tongue and gaiter to keep the foot free from debris and held tight. The woven mesh upper offers high support and exceptional breathability. Finally, we have the ubiquitous Vibram MegaGrip outsole with custom lugs to shed mud quickly to keep you moving in comfort.
