What is the future of fit?
Earlier this year, we saw some very interesting looking shoes on the feet of Hellen Obiri when she defended her Boston Marathon Crown. Finally, we can reveal the technology behind them. LightSpray is the futuristic upper construction that took her to glory.
On’s new robot cobbler weaves a total of 1.5km of filament to create the perfect upper. Previously, making a shoe upper was a multi stage affair with multiple different construction techniques required. Now, perfect fit is only 3 minutes away. No glues, no seams just a beautifully crafted upper all in all.
Just 30g in weight, the upper construction also reduces carbon emissions by up to 75% when compared to traditional methods.
On’s Lightest Shoe Ever!
Using this new technology, On created their lightest ever shoe. Coming in at just 170g, the Cloudboom Strike LS is the future of high performance running at On. The designers stripped back everything that adds weight and isn’t required for peak performance therefore creating a sheer speed machine. Consequently, the Cloudboom Strike LightSpray will feature on many a podium as the year progresses. You can read Alex’s review of the Cloudboom Strike here. The LightSpray version promises to bring an even better upper.
With no seams and a single piece construction, your foot has less chance of rubbing and blistering. Furthermore, the single piece filament upper will be extremely breathable. All in all, it might be the tool to take your PB to the next level. The future will be unveiled at the On Labs in Paris on the eve of the Olympics.
Will you be part of the LightSpray revolution? Keep your eyes peeled for all the news as it comes in!
