ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 29 Preview Introduction
For years, the GEL-NIMBUS has been ASICS’ daily cruiser. Cushioned for the daily grind and soft enough to soak up the long miles. This year, the 29th iteration of the shoe sees a new foam and geometry to take the shoe to a new level of luxury comfort. While we haven’t had the shoe on foot just yet, let’s dive into what we already know.
Upper and Fit of the GEL-NIMBUS 29 First Information
ASICS have fitted the GEL-NIMBUS 29 with an all new engineered mesh upper. To add to the premium feel, the mesh balances softness, breathability and precise engineering to achieve a dialled in fit for every foot. Along with the new mesh, a new ribbed collar, for your running pleasure, sits with the knitted tongue for lockdown.
To top it off, pull tabs have been added to allow for an even easier pull on experience. Built for comfort, the GEL-NIMBUS 29 sticks with ASICS premium build and material ethos.
Midsole and Ride of the GEL-NIMBUS 29 First Information
The GEL-NIMBUS 29 sees the shoe receive a new foam. FF LUXE PLUS takes over midsole duties this time around. A soft, deep cushion gives runners protection and support as the miles begin to add up. As seen in the GEL-SLOWCUSH, it gives ASICS their softest feel ever. It remains to be seen whether the GEL-NIMBUS 29 will have a little more versatility than its slower, cushier cousin.
It is not only the foam flavour that has changed. ASICS eye for detail extends to the sculpting of the foam. Here we find a wave design to allow for more compression to make the ride even smoother. To keep with the tradition, ASICS’ PureGEL is placed in the heel to add an extra layer of softness to the ride.

A HYBRID ASICSGRIP rubber offers even more coverage than ever before. This will hopefully create an even more durable and grippy experience throughout the year.

As ever, the GEL-NIMBUS 29 is the go to shoe for your daily miles. It won’t make the cut for your fastest efforts but it will be, in ASICS’ mind, your daily mileage crusher. Soft, plush and durable it should see you through all the running to get you to your goals. A premium experience to match ASICS’ sound mind, sound boy philosophy.
Our First Thoughts
The NIMBUS line has long been ASICS premium daily trainer. In recent iterations, it had somewhat slipped behind the curve as far as softness went. Other brands have brought softer, more comfortable foams onto their cruisier shoes. ASICS stuck with the tried and tested. The new GEL-NIMBUS 29 has the FF LUXE PLUS foam from the Slowcush. This was a shoe which Alex found to be comfortable but limited. Hopefully, the geometry and the sculpting of the foam will make this a more versatile yet just as comfortable shoe.
