ASICS Gel Nimbus 27 Preview
Back for its 27th iteration, the ASICS Gel-Nimbus returns in January of 2025. Continuing the comfort and max-stacked goodness which is synonymous with the model since the 25. The unveiling of this latest version at TRE shows only minor updates.
The tried and tested midsole from the previous version returns with a similar shape and geometry. However, although it is still FF Blast+ eco (which is the foam we found on the Nimbus 26) its composition has changed. The foam is lighter, softer and more plush. With this lighter weight midsole, the stack of the Nimbus 27 increased by 2mm throughout the length of the shoe while still maintaining the same weight.
In addition to the midsole, the upper has had an update. Moving away from the knit upper from the Nimbus 26, the Nimbus 27 has a new synthetic upper. This is both more breathable and lightweight than before. However, there are a few aspects of the upper which have remained the same. The main of which is the tongue. This is the same knitted, stretchy tongue which made the shoe so easy to put on and improved both lockdown and comfort.
One aspect which is returning is the gel technology which sits within the heel of the shoe. This distributes the pressure of the foot strike more evenly along the midsole. Similarly, the weight stays the same at 305g for a Men’s US9. It isn’t the lightest max stacked daily on the market at the moment but it certainly isn’t out of the comfortable range.
