On Cloudboom Max Preview
On have been pushing the boundaries of innovation this year with their Cloudboom Strike and Cloudboom Stike LS. The drop in midsole and 3D printed uppers made quite the splash on release at the Paris Olympics. Their race shoes have also seen Hellen Obiri take marathon gold. However, most of us are not Hellen Obiri. We have less elite footstrikes and are usually out on the marathon course for a longer time. With this in mind, On have designed the Cloudboom Max as a supershoe for the mid pack marathoner.
A dream supershoe for the “everyday runner”, the Cloudboom Max is for the 4 – 5 hour runner. An ultimate experience for the majority of the market. This puts in alongside the Salomon Spectur and ASICS S4 in a new segment of the market. The Cloudbom Max comes with a 40mm heel and a 10mm drop and will be available in August 2025. At $230 is sits in line with its supershoe siblings.
On have tried to make a compromise free supershoe which is accessible and avoids the collapse and inefficiencies of supershoes on everyday people. A more traditional shoe with no drop in upper, the pebax foam is sandwiched around a more flexible Speedboard. On hopes that this added cushion and flexibility will allow those with longer marathon times to enjoy every step and not worry about injuries during their hours on the road.
While they are keeping innovation going for the elites, On are looking to bring the experience to everyone with the Cloudboom Max. We are looking forward to getting the miles into the Max and seeing if it matches the claims.
