Altra 2025 Line Up Introduction
The 0 drop masters ventured out of their usual comfort zone last year with the FWD Experience. Introducing a 4mm drop to a midsole took them into the same space as a HOKA. Comfortable and cushioned but with the unique Altra toe box. Their racing shoes also gained favour with our Meta Endurance testers. The Mont Blanc Carbon and the Vanish Carbon 2 both received glowing reports.
What surprises does the Altra 2025 line up have in store for us?
Altra Paradigm 8
• Category: Road
• Stack: 31mm
• Drop: 0mm
• Weight: 309g | 10.9oz
• Price: $160
• Release date: July 2025
Coming out of the gate hot is the Paradigm 8. Many runners love a max stack trainer but those with stability needs are often overlooked in this area. However, the Altra Paradigm is here to fix that.
It has a thick midsole but with a wide base and slightly stiffer foam to keep things on the straight and narrow. Another key feature of the Paradigm midsole is the guide rail which helps to stop over pronation.
Whilst it has a hefty weight, 309g, it isn’t designed for top end racing. Rather, it is a shoe for those who want some structure and comfort rather than pace. It can also handle some walking! Pick yours up in July for $160
Altra FWD Via
• Category: Road
• Stack: 37mm
• Drop: 4mm
• Weight: 269g | 9.5oz
• Price: $150
• Release date: October 2024
The FWD Experience began Altra’s trip to the dark side of drop. Next, the FWD Via is the next step in that journey. The highest stack shoe in Altra’s 2025 line up. A 37mm stack of Ego Flow foam and a 4mm drop deliver cushion in a light package.
Alongside the foam, the rocker geometry will help the FWD Via flow through the gait cycle. Overall, the FWD Via is a luxury, plush experience for runners. At $160 and 9.5oz, the FWD Via is a competitive looking shoe for the market.
Altra Superior 7
• Category: Trail
• Stack: 21mm
• Drop: 0mm
• Weight: 264g | 9.3oz
• Price: $130
• Release date: January 2025
In contrast to the max stack of the previous two releases, the Superior 7 is a low slung and flexible option. If you like to hit the trails with a lot of ground feel, this may be a great option for you.
This release sees the removal of the rock plate. On the other hand, it keeps the 21mm of stack. Furthermore, at just $130 it is a very reasonably priced entry into the Altra 2025 line up.
If you want to work your way into the Altra toe box, you can grab your Superior 7 in April 2025 for $120.
Altra Experience Wild
• Category: Hybrid
• Stack: 32mm
• Drop: 4mm
• Weight: 293g | 10.4oz
• Price: $140
• Release date: May 2025
Sticking with the trail theme, although this time with a drop, we have the Experience Wild 2. This brings a minimal update because the original version was received so well.
Therefore, the only real update is to create a more durable upper. A reinforced toe box and a touch more padding around the achilles are the key updates here. The outsole is MAXTRAC to help you stick to the trails on your next adventure. 32mm of Ego Max foam and a 4mm drop will help you roll from road to trail.
Despite the upgrades, the Experience Wild 2 actually has a price drop (in dollars, at least). Previously, $145 you can chop $5 off that for this year.
Altra Torin 8
• Category: Road
• Stack: 30mm
• Drop: 0mm
• Weight: 288g | 10.2oz
• Price: $150
• Release date: February 2025
Altra’s top selling road model is back for an eighth iteration. The emphasis on this was increasing the durability. Therefore, the upper has been given a do-over to add an extra 100 miles or so of wear time.
However, the bulk of the Torin remains unchanged. We still have a 30mm stack height of Ego Max foam and 0mm of drop. Thankfully, the price of the Torin 8 remains $150, no inflation in the Altra 2025 line up.
You can grab yours in February 2025.
Altra Timp 5 BOA
• Category: Trail
• Stack: 29mm
• Drop: 0mm
• Weight: 284g | 10.0oz
• Price: $175
• Release date: February 2025
Heading back off road, we have the very pretty Timp 5 BOA. If you liked the Timp 5, you will be glad to know the midsole and outsole remain the same. Firstly, the 29mm drop remain the same. Next, we have the Vibram to grab the trails.
However, when we look at the upper of the Timp 5 BOA, we find a huge change. The clue is really in the name. Instead of laces, we have a BOA system to help really lock in that fit. As a consequence, technical terrains will be no issue.
If this seems like your kind of thing, you can grab yours in February for $175.
Altra Lone Peak 9
• Category: Trail
• Stack: 31mm
• Drop: 0mm
• Weight: 316g | 11.2oz
• Price: $160 | $175 (European Vibram version)
• Release date: December 2024
Next up, we have the best selling shoe in the Altra range. Back for a ninth version, the Lone Peak brings a lot of changes but retains the character of previous models.
Firstly, it gets an aesthetic update. However, this is not all. The durability has also had an overhaul. Consequently, we find a more durable midsole coupled with an enhanced toe bumper.
Furthermore, the Lone Peak 9 has gained some added stability with extra material in the width of the heel. Again, we find no inflation in the Altra 2025 line up. $140 remains the price. However, there will be a European edition which comes in at $15 more but it does boast a Vibram outsole. What price security underfoot?
Altra Experience Flow 2
• Category: Road
• Stack: 32mm
• Drop: 4mm
• Weight: 231g | 8.2oz
• Price: $140
• Release date: June 2025
Next in the Altra 2025 line up, we are back on the roads and back to a shoe with 4mm of drop. The Experience Flow 2 lives up to its name. With the drop and the rocker its gives an overall flow experience through the gait cycle.
Despite the changes to the Altra norms, it keeps the same spacious, anatomically designed toe box. Additionally, at only 8oz, it is a very reasonable weight for a shoe with 32mm of foam in the heel.
If you are looking for a deeply cushioned, flow experience, the Altra 2025 line up has this for you! Grab yours for $140 in June 2025.
Altra Olympus 275
• Category: Trail
• Stack: 33mm
• Drop: 0mm
• Weight: 339g | 12oz
• Price: $185
• Release date: July 2025
In contrast to the naming conventions of the other shoes in the Altra 2025 line up, this is not the 275th version of the Olympus. Rather, it is a brand new shoe in the line. Meanwhile, the 275 refers to the temperature at which the glue boils away to allow you to dismantle a pair of Altra. The more you know!
For fans of the Olympus itself, you will enjoy the same midsole and outsole. However, the upper is all new and the shoe has lost nearly an ounce in weight. Rather than a 12oz shoe, we get a 10.5oz trail runner with a Matryx upper for added durability. Another key feature of the upper is the gaiter which will help keep trail junk at bay.
This is the one shoe in the Altra 2025 line up which has had a price increase. Matryx doesn’t come for free, $10 is the price you pay for the privilege. You can pick up this long distance, technical treat in July 2025.
